Many citizens in Washington County don’t know where their next meal is going to come from. Amanda Pieper, Director of the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program Food Reservoir, states many children in Washington County are in need of assistance and adds summer months are difficult because they are not receiving meals they normally do during a school day. Approximately one in four children in Washington County don’t know where their next meal will come from and one in five adults and seniors are in the same boat.

Pieper adds food donations are helpful, especially produce because they can be moved quickly. However, for each dollar the organization receives six meals can be provided to the community.
