A new festival that highlights Columbus Junction’s historic swinging bridge is being held this weekend. According to organizer of the event, Melanie DeVore, proceeds will be used for maintenance on the Swinging Bridge which isn’t the first built in that location.
The original was built in 1886. A few decades later it was condemned and replaced with a bridge that collapsed about ten years later. In 1922, the bridge that continues to stand today was constructed. DeVore explains the bridge is safe, but like anything that’s nearly 100 years old, it occasionally needs repairs.
The day full of activities gets underway at 9am on Saturday.
