University of Iowa students have been working on projects, in partnership with the City of Washington, as part of the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities. Program coordinator Nick Benson explains each year the University selects a handful of communities to work with and this year Washington was chosen. Benson states there was a variety of projects from engineering a water detention facility to the wellness park, a marketing campaign with the Chamber of Commerce and even a mural design for the back of the library.
The spring semester projects will be on display in Washington tonight. The initiative is hosting a celebration of the program at the Washington Public Library from 5 to 7 p.m. that is open to the public.
