Last week the Washington Demon girls soccer team defeated Mid-Prairie 1-0. Tuesday night in Washington the Golden Hawks returned the favor, spoiling opening night for the Washington soccer complex, with a 4-1 win. The Demons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 20th minute from Kayla Schindler. Mid-Prairie tied the game at one with a penalty kick goal from Bailey Harris in the 28th minute.
With the game tied going into the second half Mid-Prairie’s Ashley Miller took over. Miller posted the rare natural hat trick scoring in the 51st minute to give the Golden Hawks a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later she found the back of the net to make it 3-1, and she beat the keeper once more in the 71st minute to finish the hat trick and put the game out of reach. Following the game Miller talked about her second half scoring chances.
“I really wanted to start [getting] all of my goals again, because last year this was when I got my hat trick, and so I felt that I really needed to push myself and count on my teammates to get a through ball and get into the open, and I just felt like it was my night so I went for it,” Miller said.
The win is Mid-Prairie’s first of the season, giving them a 1-3 record going into Thursday’s game against Columbus. Washington falls to 2-2 on the year.
