The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team opens up the season tonight, when they travel to Solon to face the Spartans in a scrimmage.

The Golden Hawks bring back a veteran staff, with Austin Errthum and Wyatt Cady averaging 20.5 goals last year combined. They will be called upon tonight to get the scoring done and lead the team. Who plays in net tonight could be a game time decision, as no one with experience returns, but seeing as this is a scrimmage, there may be multiple people who get a shot.

Solon is coming off a 13-3-2 year where they let in just nine goals, but they lost a lot of scoring to graduation. They do bring back their top player in Brandan Childs who had nine goals last year, and in net will most likely be Nick Melchert with 90 minutes played last year and eight saves.

Mid-Prairie head coach Pay Cady says he thinks his team has a chance to be really good this year, but they have to start here and finish out the season.

“I just think with these guys getting another year of experience under their belt, and it’s seniors, we got older, we only lost a couple of quality kids, so we don’t have a lot of holes to fill,” Cady said. “It should be a good season, if these guys can just get on the same page and finish out together, they will be a phenomenal team.”

Mid-Prairie travels to Solon tonight with kickoff at 5.
