The IMS boys basketball team went to New London and took care of business.
IMS won 61-43, with no doubt of who was in control of the game.
In the first quarter, IMS was a little slower to get out, but Reggie Hostetler and Dallas Nye both started to get wound up in the game, as IMS lead 16-10 after one. In the second quarter, Zach Hill and Hostetler led the way for IMS with seven points for Hostetler and six points for Zach Hill down low, to push the lead for IMS to 34-21 at half.
After halftime, IMS got the lead to as many as 17, but some big three-point shots from the tigers pulled the lead down to 10. IMS wasn’t worried though, as they powered through the fourth quarter with some more quality shooting, and going 5-7 at the free throw line to help push the lead and get the win 61-43.
After the game head coach Dwight Gingerich said the game wasn’t the best from his team, but after an hour bus drive down, he thinks they played pretty well.
“Honestly I didn’t think we played with the kind of sharpness I was hoping for. That first round tournament game, it’s nerves, or whatever else, but I thought we settled in and played pretty well in stretches. On offensive I thought that we were a little bit passive, we weren’t quite as aggressive as we we wanted to be, in stretches I thought that we floated a little bit on shots, we didn’t finish shots like we needed to, we got better at that through the game, and I thought that our guys really settled in, and focused in and did a nice job,” Gingerich said.
IMS was led by Nye and Hostetler with 15 points, while Zach Hill put in 11, and Eli Gingerich had 10. IMS will face Lone Tree in the district semifinals. Lone Tree won 60-54 over Winfield-Mt. Union last night to play IMS for a third time.
