The Demon basketball teams travel down to Ft. Madison tonight for a Southeast conference match-up.
The girls team will need to have a short memory to forget the bad game against Keokuk, and come out and play a tough Bloodhound team that Washington has not seen yet.
The Demons are going from not playing in nine days, to playing three games in three days, with tonight being No. 2. Washington is 10-6, and scoring 51.6 points per game, and shooting just over 33.5 percent from the field and just 22.7 percent from behind the arc. The Demons shot just six free throws in last night’s game against Keokuk, which is uncharacteristic of their usual play.
Grace Redlinger leads the way with 14.1 points, while Dema Giardino comes in with 9.4, and Stephanie Fishback has 8.5.
Ft. Madison comes in after a tough extra time loss to Mt. Pleasant on Monday. They are scoring 49 points per game, and shooting 37 percent from the field, and 30 percent from downtown. The Bloodhounds are led by LaStella Slack with 9.9 points per game, Caitlin Marhsall with 9.3 points per game, and Rachel Steffensmeier with 9.0 points per game.
The boys’ game is about redemption, and the loss Washington took at home last month. The Demons are coming off another big comeback victory of Lone Tree, and are scoring 55 points per game, and shooting 40 percent from the field, but only 26 percent from three-point range. Thomas Bump is the guy out in front with 12.2 points per game, and Gage Redlinger is right behind him with 10.2. Blake Weidman and Mason Quigley both come in with over eight points per game.
Ft. Madison hasn’t slowed down since their win against Washington, beating Mount Pleasant by 14. They’re scoring 61.6 points per game, hitting 45.5 percent of their shots, and 35 percent from behind the arc. Their leading scorer is Mile Wentzien with 21.8 points per game, a shot that lands 51 percent of the time and 46 percent from downtown. Following him are the equally efficient shooters of David Nagel with 11.8 points per game, and Bryson Abbey with 8.8 points per game.
