The Washington Demon basketball teams open up Southeast conference play tonight when they host Fairfield.
The Demons girls are coming off a win over Ottumwa earlier in the week, while the boys lost to Muscatine on Monday.
For the Demon girls, they come into the game shooting under 30 percent from the field and are shooting 54 percent from the free throw line, while scoring 49 points per game. The Demons have 60 steals on the season, but are averaging about 20 turnovers per game.
Grace Redlinger has taken over the top scoring duties with 9.8 points per game, while Dema Giardino is in a close second with 9.4, and Sthephanie Fishback has 8.8.
Fairfield is 4-2 on the season, shooting 30 percent from the floor and three-point range, and 57 percent from the free throw line, but they only average 46.5 points per game. The Trojans also get steals with 76, but have 115 turnovers.
For the boy’s side, the Demons are 0-2, but after some close games with two quality opponents. the Demons are averaging 55 points per game, but the biggest hurdle for Washington is their turnovers and the easy bunnies. The Demons turned the ball over quite a bit against Muscatine and let them get back in the game.
Mason Quigley leads the scorers, and is followed by just about anyone from Walker Breard to Thomas Bump.
Fairfield is 3-0 on the season, and is shooting 44 percent from the field and 61 percent from the free throw line. They are averaging almost 60 points per game, and have three players averaging double digit points per game.
Federico Ferretti is the top guy to watch with 13.7 points per game, but behind him is Matt Carr with 13.3 points per game and Landon Gamrath with 12.3 points per game. The team does not turn it over often either, with 36 turnovers on the season to 47 assists.
