Monday’s Mid-Prairie boys basketball jamboree in Wellman served as a showcase for several teams in southeast Iowa. All games played were scrimmages one half in length. Keota got the action underway as the 1A Eagles beat the 3A Mt. Pleasant Panthers led by the hot shooting of guard Luke Lyle. Lyle ended with a team high 10 points, Kolton Greiner added five for Keota as the Eagles erased a 9-7 deficit after the first quarter to win 23-16.

In the third contest of the night it was 1A IMS who bested 3A Clear Creek Amana 26-20. The teams played even up through the first quarter before IMS used pressure defense to force turnovers and get some easy looks. Iowa Mennonite won the rebounding battle by six in the half of play. IMS was led by Dallas Nye’s 13 points and four rebounds, Reggie Hostetler also added six points for IMS.

The nightcap was a battle of two area teams as Mid-Prairie hosted Highland. The Golden Hawks hammered the boards, holding a plus 13 margin after the scrimmage, en route to a 45-21 win over the Huskies. Mid-Prairie led 22-9 after the first quarter and used a full court press to force Highland turnovers and extend the lead. The Golden Hawks were led on the night by Christian Johnson’s nine points and six rebounds. Nathan Faselt had six points and four boards for the Hawks. Highland was led by by Colin Sexton who had a nice night with eight points and two boards.
