Boaters may be lulled into a false sense of security when assessing their risk of fire while out on the water. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer, Wes Gould, says any boat with a motor that’s 10 horsepower or larger needs a fire extinguisher on board. He adds he’s seen plenty of flash fires during his time with the DNR.
