A summer reading program student holds up a piece of 'gold' he found while at the library.

The free summer reading program for children is underway at the Washington Public Library with this year’s theme being “Dig Into Reading.” Some of the activities include panning for gold, reading about Egypt and having special guests. Janisa Hanson explains the goal of the program is for kids to retain or advance their reading level over the summer through the programs. To get more information about summer reading programs visit the library, or go online to its Facebook page or website. The programs are for all ages, children, teens and adults.
