Despite predictions made last week, the levels on the Iowa River have begun to drop at Columbus Junction. Last week, in preparation for possible flooding, equipment was used to temporarily raise the levee and a sand bagging effort began. But the river crested Wednesday, at a level lower than initially predicted, and dropped more than a foot yesterday. Columbus Junction Police Chief Donnie Orr says he’s relieved that forecasts, which called for more rain upriver, were wrong. The Iowa River is expected to fall below flood stage Wednesday morning.
