The Golden Hawks girls golf team continued their run of team championships Friday night in Marengo at the Iowa Valley Invitational. Mid-Prairie topped the six team field with an overall score of 212, English Valley finished second at 219 and area school Keota was fifth in the field at 238. The team title for Mid-Prairie was their fifth in six events this season.

Individually Mid-Prairie was led by Leah Parrot who fired a 51. She spoke after the game about the most important hole of her round, number 6 a short par three that was a nightmare for most on the course last night.

“Hole number six, it is a par three and I hit it on the green,” Parrot said. “I got an eight before that so I think that got me out of my rut.”

Also scoring for Mid-Prairie were Courtney Cayton with her 53, Allison Wertz and Summer Gracy both finished with 54s.
Following the meet title Coach Tracy McArtor talked about what has keyed his teams run this season.

“A lot of it is that the kids just don’t give up, they have a bad hole, and then they push it aside and know that they can’t change it, so they go on to the next hole,” McArtor said. “They’ve got the mental part of the game now, where they know it already happened, just move on and try to make up a couple strokes here or there and it seems to be working for them.”

Mid-Prairie will next be in action Thursday at the Clear Creek Amana Classic
