Residents of Kalona that meet certain requirements may be able to obtain forgivable loans to make improvements to their home. ECICOG, or East Central Iowa Council of Governments, has $300,000 available to disperse to those on a fixed or low to moderate income. The grants, up to $7,500, can be used to make emergency and exterior repairs, fix roofing and windows, and make accessibility improvements. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says applications are available from city hall or by calling ECICOG.
