The Highland track and field team has been patiently waiting for their first outdoor meet to happen, as their meets have been canceled.

The Huskies are scheduled to run a meet on Thursday at Van Buren for their first outdoor meet, which head coach Dan Dickel see’s as more of a practice, but the kids see as a chance to show off their skills.

“I really look at it as a practice meet or a warm up meet, but the kids, it’s really hard for them to buy into that,” Dickel said. “You get the sense that they think they should be at their peak right off the bat, and it is kind of hard to get them to understand that it’s a process from the beginning of the season to peaking at the end of the season.”

The Huskies will run conference on May 2 at Columbus Junction, but until then, Highland is waiting out the cold just to get out doors on Thursday.
