Help is on the way for residents looking to take advantage of the city of Washington’s leaf and yard waste removal. The City of Washington offers a roadside pickup service involving a truck with a tow behind vacuum to remove leaves and other fall yard waste.

JJ Bell, Maintenance and Construction Superintendent for the City tells KCII news, a breakdown occurred when the clutch failed on the 18 year old equipment. The annual program the City laid out had the unit continually circling town in a counter clockwise pattern to remove yard waste but Bell tells KCII with the setback they have only been able to get through the city once, and that they are well behind the scheduleset forth for this season.

The goal is for City crews to get the new part installed on the truck and get it back into operation Wednesday. Until then residents are encouraged to take yard trimmings and leaves to the Yard Waste Center at 1065 West Buchanan. The Yard Waste Center is open from 7-4 Monday through Friday.
