Federal aviation officials respond to a plane crash in Henry County.  Around 10:00 yesterday morning, Henry County law enforcement received a call from a witness who saw a plane crash in a corn field near Salem.  State troopers at the scene reported a single-engine plane piloted by Gary Kirby from McKinney, Texas, had crash landed.

Kirby was transported to the Henry County Health Center for treatment.  He was later taken to the University of Iowa Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Troopers say Kirby was traveling from Oshkosh, Wisconsin before experiencing engine problems.

There were no other passengers in the plane, and no other injuries reported.

Assisting at the scene were the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Fire Department, Henry County Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.  The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
