IMS used small ball to defeat Winfield-Mt. Union 8-3 on the road Thursday night. In a game heard on KCII, IMS did most of their damage without hitting a ball out of the infield in building an 8-0 lead over the Lady Wolves. Both pitchers worked quickly through the first three innings but IMS got on the board in the 4th as speedsters Mo Brenneman and Gretchen Geyer both scored. IMS added two more in the 5th on a crazy chain of events as Brenneman bunted and two Winfield-Mt. Union errors allowed both runners on base to score and Brenneman wound up at 3rd. IMS broke things open in the 7th as they began to line up the Lady Wolves hurler Kassidy McLaughlin for four runs. Winfield-Mt. Union broke through in their last at bat scoring three runs before Laura Hochstedler and IMS closed the door. Hochstedler recorded the win to improve to 8-11 on the year, McLaughlin falls to 5-10. At the plate IMS was led by Brenneman who scored twice, Megan Haifley and Naomi Miller each drove in a run. IMS is now 8-11 on the season and will be in action tonight as they host Highland.
