A Washington Demon coach is being presented a national award this evening. Demon Boys Track and Field Head Coach Steve Roth is receiving the honor from the National Federation of High School Athletic Association.  Roth was nominated by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. A Coach of the Year is recognized in each state. In looking at nominees they consider coaching success, longevity, and involvement in other activities outside of your coaching position. Roth has not only coached the Demons boys track team for 35 seasons, but has organized youth track meets to help young kids start the sport early, organized fun runs for the area, and has helped community beautification by taking care of grass and flowers around the city. He says his biggest thanks is to the athletes he’s worked with. He will be presented with the award this evening in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He’s also giving a talk there on how he focuses practices on percentage such as running at 70 percent rather than worrying about times in practice as well as the importance of not spending too much in practice.
