An area high school golf coach has been charged with drunk driving and child endangerment after being pulled over by the Iowa State Patrol Tuesday.  Fairfield girls’ golf coach Susie Steinbeck had reportedly been swerving near the intersection of U.S. 218 and Highway 16 in Lee County.  She had been driving the team to a conference meet in Keokuk.

Iowa State Patrol pulled Steinbeck over at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday morning and performed a field sobriety test, where Steinbeck registered a .212 blood alcohol level.  Lee County officials say she appeared without an attorney in court Tuesday, and was released.

A preliminary hearing for Steinbeck has been scheduled for May 20.  Fairfield Community School District Superintendent Don Achelpohl says “the safety of the students was verified and the district made arrangements for the team to continue on to Keokuk.”

Parents were notified by Fairfield High School of the incident.
