The Iowa Department of Public Health is recommending that respiratory protection be worn by individuals who will be involved in the removal or destruction of crops that were covered by flood water or show signs of extensive Mold. Exposure to moldy, damaged, dusty grain can cause significant health issues for people. Symptoms from exposure include cough, headache, chest tightness, muscle aches, and fever. Washington County health officials are recommending protecting yourself by using a properly-fitting, NIOSH-approved “N 95” respirator. If you have questions about symptoms or where to obtain an N 95 mask, you can call Washington County Public Health at 653-7758.
