A judge will now decide for or against Washington County in a lawsuit against the City of Riverside. Lawyers for the County and Riverside presented their cases for summary judgment this morning at the Washington County Courthouse.  The County disputes Riverside’s refusal to honor an agreement to reimburse county taxpayers for a portion of the roughly $9 million spent to make way for the then unbuilt Riverside Casino and Resort. Despite entering into a contract with the County, Riverside now says the agreement is void because it violates Iowa code that prevents a city from borrowing more than 5% of its property tax value.  Washington County Attorney Barb Edmondson says the facts of the case are not in dispute, and the judge will now decide how to interpret Iowa Law.  KCII will bring you more details as they become official.
