Washington County Supervisors are expected to set the date for the first official public hearing on a proposed zoning ordinance at this week’s meeting. State law requires governmental bodies to hold such hearings prior to implementing ordinances. Zoning has been a contentious issue in Washington County. Opponents say it’s too restrictive and would create unnecessary government bureaucracy. Supporters say it would protect farmland and provide for orderly growth. Board members will also hear a presentation from the U-S Census Bureau and consider a resolution of support and partnership with the 2010 Census. The meeting starts Tuesday morning at 9:30 in the Washington County Courthouse.
