An American Cancer Society spokesman says even though the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force upped the recommended age for women to start getting regular mammograms from 40 to 50, the ACS is sticking with their policy. Chuck Reed says women should examine themselves, and get screened if they notice anything unusual, even if it’s before their 40th birthday. Reed says it’s also important to practice preventive measures such as getting regular exercise, eating healthy and avoiding tobacco.
