Corn and soybean progress continues to lag behind despite a few weeks of what for the most part was ideal weather. The USDA says 18 percent of corn is safe from frost. That’s compared to the five year average of 55 percent. 27 percent of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to the 39 percent average. The federal agency says there is some soybean harvesting going on, but only in very light and sandy soils. Despite the slow progress, most of the state’s crops are rated in good to excellent condition.
