Kids across the state are encouraged to sign up for the Iowa Kids Garden Day to be recognized on May 20th. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is encouraging schools, early childcare providers, and community partners to register events where kids can connect to gardening. This provides students a chance to learn about how food is grown.
One local organization is helping kids learn how to grow food. The Y Kids Summer Camp theme this year is Farm Life & Gardening. Campers will get to dig in and get their hands dirty while learning how to plant, grow, and care for a garden all summer long. Washington Lumber and Home Center helped support the cost of building the garden beds, and Engineered Building Design, L.C. helped to construct them.
Interested organizations can sign up through the Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Coalition, find more information at the link with this news story at KCIIRadio.com.
