The Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ golf team is moving on to the Class 1A Regional Final, and will be joined by Columbus’ Hailey Wellington, who qualified individually at Deerwood Golf Course in New London on Friday.

The Wolves took second with a 415, four strokes back of first place Wapello. Leading the way for WMU was Ashlyn Bender, who finished second overall at 90 strokes. Ella Kann and Kellee Milks secured top ten finishes with a 94 and 95. Brynn Pogmore shot a 136 to finish the team score. Isabella Martinez shot a 150.

Meanwhile, Wellington was the only Wildcat to take to the course, but she made the most of it, finishing fourth with a 93 and placing high enough to advance as an individual.

WACO was also on the course Friday, and placed fifth at 495. Morgan Meyer led the Warriors at 103, followed by Reece Roth at 114. Gracie Cardenas and Beatrice Anderson posted a 130 and 148 respectively.

Wapello were the overall champions at 411. Other team’s at Friday’s regional included third-place Van Buren, fourth-place New London, sixth-place Holy Trinity Catholic, and seventh-place Danville. Van Buren’s Sophia Jirak was the overall champion, shooting an 89.
