Thursday’s Southeast Iowa Superconference North girls track meet came down to the final event, but it was WACO that was able to edge out Pekin to claim this year’s conference championship.

WACO claimed the championship with 139 team points, four points ahead of Pekin. Individual champions for the Warriors included Bren Graber in the high jump with a height of 5’01,” the 4×800 relay of Carlee Lunsford, Aliya Graber, Trinity Dean, and Josie Dykstra with a time of 10:48.83, and the 4×400 relay team of Lunsford, Aliya Graber, Morgan Leichty, and Javan Davis with a time of 4:24.95 to seal the deal. Second place finishes included Bren Graber in the 100m and 400m hurdles, Josie Dykstra in the 400m and a new school record in the 800m, Macie Carter with a new school record in the 3000m, the 4×100 shuttle hurdle team of Davis, Madelyn Farmer, Courtney Waterhouse, and Bren Graber, and the distance medley team of Ryen Pepper, Taelyn Egli, Aliya Graber, and Carter. Third place Warriors included Dykstra in the 400m hurdles, Lunsford in the 800m, Carter in the 1500m, the sprint medley team of Natalie Wagler, Davis, Egli, and Leichty, the 4×100 relay team of Pepper, Wagler, Leichty, and Egli, and the 4x200m relay team of Wagler, Leichty, Farmer, and Waterhouse.

Highland placed fourth with 84 team points. Earning first place for the Huskies were the 4×100 relay team of Hailey Brun, Kamryn Fink, Kinzie Ruess, and Alexa Hahn with a time of 51.61, and the 4x200m team of Sienna Bell, Brun, Ruess, and Fink with a time of 1:50.89. Alexa Hahn finished second in the long jump. Third place Huskies included Maiya Singbeil in the 100m hurdles, Hahn in the 400m, and Chloe Sexton in the shot put.

Hillcrest placed fifth with 68 team points. Rya Scott brought home first place finishes in the 100m with a time of 12.53, and in the 200m with a time of 26.16. Adia Scott finished third in the 100m and 200m. Siena Stanerson finished fourth in the 3000m.

Columbus placed sixth with 61.5 team points. Ella Howell set a new school record in the 400m with a time of 59.93, and also took first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.11. Bella Forbes finished second in the discus throw and shot put. Howell also finished third in the long jump.

Lone Tree finished in seventh with 55 team points. Ava Christofferson took the conference championship in the long jump with a distance of 17’01,” with the sprint medley team of Addison McCullough, Adyson Eiben, Jazmine Nino and Lindsay Baltazar also claiming a championship with a time of 2:02.12. Christofferson also claimed second in the 100m and 200m, with the 4×100 relay team of McCullough, Eiben, Baltazar, and Christofferson also taking second.

Winfield-Mt. Union placed eighth with 29 team points. Quin Smith placed second in the high jump. Other top performing Wolves included a fifth place finish for Kaelyn Townsley in the 100m hurdles, and a sixth place finish for Shaye Nelson in the 400m hurdles.

Other teams at Thursday’s meet included Pekin in second, Louisa-Muscatine in third, and Wapello in ninth.
