Thursday was a party from beginning to end for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team as they sent off their seniors with a 7-0 win over visiting Central Lee. The Golden Hawks jumped up early, on top 3-0 at half, then added four more after intermission to seal the win. The seniors joined KCII sports after the match to talk about the season, the win and their leadership role on the team. “(During the ceremony), there were a lot of memories coming up. It was really sweet to see how everyone gets along. It’s nice to see the community we built in our soccer team. (Offensively tonight), we put it a lot of good crosses. We worked together really well, especially in the first half. We always work together well. (On defense) we were backing up each other, being there for each other in the back. The defense was aggressive, not being afraid of the ball or the people, just driving right through them. (This senior class are good leaders), because we are good communicators, we listen to each other. We care for each other. We love each other. We want what’s best for each other. This senior group has a strong work ethic that we can give to our younger teammates.”
Mid-Prairie had 21 shots on goal and eight corner kicks. Kealy Roberts led the Golden Hawk attack with a hat trick plus one, giving her a team best 18 goals this season. Meadow Flynn added two goals and Brooklyn Schneider one. Schneider and Flynn each had two assists, Roberts and Ahna Townsend one each. Lily Flynn had a clean sheet in goal as the Golden Hawk defense did not allow Central Lee a single shot. Mid-Prairie moved to 8-3 with the win as Central Lee is now winless in 11 tries.
The Golden Hawks honored 13 seniors in a pre-game ceremony including Kealy Roberts, Avery Helmuth, Kassidi Greiner, Addison Yoder, Meadow Flynn Brooke Yoder, Ahna Townsend, Adrianne Blauvelt, Cirina Lucas, Maggie Owen, Cadence Yoder, Ellie Callahan and Niva Helmuth.
