The Columbus Wildcats faced a state-ranked Maquoketa Cardinals squad Thursday, falling 7-0 behind five goals for one of the state’s most profilic goal scorers.
Maquoketa senior Maelyn Kluever was too much for the Wildcats to handle. Kluever, who came into the game having scored seven goals in just two games, nearly doubled her total on Thursday. The Cardinals scored five goals in the first half, and two more in the second half.
Additional goals for the Cardinals came from Hayden DeLarm and Arabella Wagner. The Wildcats fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 3-0. Columbus will look to break a two-game losing skid Friday against Burlington Notre Dame.
