Those interested in purchasing an honor paver for the Wellman Veterans and First Responders Memorial still have time to do so, but there is a deadline if they’d like it to be a part of the upcoming dedication ceremony. The community can purchase these to honor a veteran or first responder.

To ensure that an honor paver is a part of the ceremony, purchases must be turned in by April 30th. Honor pavers will be engraved with the names and service information of a chosen individual, and will be located within the Freedom Plaza area of the memorial. The City of Wellman will host a dedication ceremony as a part of this year’s Fourth of July celebrations.

Wellman City Administrator Kelly Litwiller says that the form to purchase an honor paver can be sent in past the April 30th deadline, but the city cannot guarantee that it will be done in time for the dedication ceremony. The memorial will be located at the corner of 8th Avenue and Highway 22, honoring members of all branches of the military, as well as local veterans, firefighters, and first responders. Litwiller says construction is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks.

The estimated cost for the project is $250,000, and has been funded through a $125,000 contribution by the city, as well as other monetary donations and the sale of honor pavers.
