A long-awaited solar energy project in Washington County has changed management.

The Goldfinch Solar project has been taken over by MidAmerican Energy, and they are hoping that the project will continue to move forward.

Goldfinch Solar and Washington County entered into a road use agreement in September of 2024. Goldfinch and MidAmerican Energy Company have intended to enter into an asset purchase agreement to which Goldfinch will agree to transfer its right, title, and interest in the development assets necessary to develop the project to MidAmerican Energy.

The project will occupy over 2,000 acres of land in Washington County that 15 landowners provided in the county, all necessary land rights have been secured. The estimated total cost of the project is around $250 million. The 200 megawatt facility would be built on privately-owned land north of Ainsworth. This project has been ongoing since 2022 when the first public meetings were held.

MidAmerican Energy representatives stated that any updates on timelines for the project will be reported to the County Board of Supervisors.
