
It’s rivalry Saturday this afternoon on the KCII3 Stream as the Hillcrest Academy boys and girls basketball teams host the Lone Tree Lions in a Superconference North doubleheader.
The Raven girls are 3-6 after a loss last night to Louisa-Muscatine 52-35. This year, Hillcrest scores 39 points per game and gives up 46, shooting 31% from the field, 25% from three and 39% from the foul line, with 34 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals, two blocks, and 29 turnovers per game. Individually, Claire Withrow scores a team-high 12 points a game, and is top five in the North division in blocks per game and three point shooting.
The Lady Lions take the court for the first time in 2026 riding a four-game win streak, the most recent a 48-41 victory over Louisa-Muscatine December 19th. Finley Jacque piled up 24 points, and Abby Zaruba had a near double-double of nine points and 11 boards. This season, Lone Tree scores 54 points per game and gives up 42, shooting 34% from the field, 21% from deep and 51% from the line, with 37 rebounds, 10 assists, 14 steals, two blocks, and 19 giveaways a game. Jacque is the Superconference North’s leader with over 19 points an outing, followed by senior teammate Ava Christofferson’s 14.
The Lady Lions have held the edge historically over the Ravens, leading the all-time series 29-6 dating back to 2009 in the Varsity Bound era, winners of the last 11.
On the boys side, Hillcrest remains unbeaten atop the north division of the SEISC at 6-0. On the year, the Ravens score 61 points per game and give up 46, shooting 45% from the floor, 34% from the outside and 58% at the line, with 31 rebounds, 15 assists, 12 steals, two blocks, and 15 turnovers a game. Individually, a trio of Ravens score over 10 points a night, led by Kale Bailey’s 17 followed by Rowan Miller at 15 and Gibson Scott’s 12.
Lone Tree picked up their first conference win in December against Louisa-Muscatine 49-45. Reece Holbrook played a large role in the triumph, dropping a 24-point, 14-rebound double-double. Cade Willoz was also strong on the glass, collecting 11 boards. Through eight games, the Lions score 47 points per game and give up 55, shooting 36% from the floor, 22% from beyond the arc and 59% from the free throw line, with 27 rebounds, nine assists, seven steals, one block, and 17 turnovers per game. Holbrook is the individual leader in points and rebounds per game with 13 and nine, respectively.
In the Varsity Bound era, the Ravens lead the all-time series with Lone Tree 23-14 dating back to 2009, and are seeking their 11th straight in the series today.
