Property owners should take note that the first half of real estate and mobile home taxes must be paid this month to avoid a penalty. 

Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett explains that taxes were due September 1st, and must be paid by September 30th to avoid a penalty. Beginning October 1st, a penalty of 1.5% per month will be attached, and are rounded to the nearest whole dollar.

Garrett states that in order to reduce wait times, payments can be made through the mail, paid online at www.iowatreasurers.org, or put in the drop box on the west side of the Washington County Courthouse.

Payments should include the statement coupons. Any questions should be made directly to the treasurer’s office.
