The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team needed a bounceback, and they got it Monday with a River Valley Conference doubleheader sweep of No. 15 Wilton on the road by 4-1 and 5-0 scores. After an hour rain delay before action started, Mid-Prairie came out focused in the opener. The Hawks scored once in the second to go up 1-0 and things stayed that way until the seventh, where Mid-Prairie would post three big insurance runs on RBI hits from Conner Wiles and Blake Swart. That was more than enough for Golden Hawk senior starter Brady Weber who twirled a complete game gem, allowing just one unearned run and striking out 10. At the plate, Mid-Prairie out hit the Beavers 6-4 in total and drew three walks. Wiles drove in a pair, Blake Swart had two hits and an RBI, stealing three bags, Jason Heitman knocked in one.

In the nightcap the Golden Hawks again rode superior pitching and defense and enough offense across the finish line in the sweep. Mid-Prairie scratched across single tallies in the first, third and sixth to go up 3-0 and added a pair more for insurance in the seventh. Brooks Weber got the win in the start on the mound with four frames, two hits, four walks and five strikeouts. Kale Miller was dynamic out of the pen in a nine-out save, giving up just two hits, two walks and striking out three. The Hawks out hit the Beavers 8-4 in total and drew five walks. Tatem Telfer was two for three with three driven in. Brooks Weber added an RBI for Mid-Prairie. Following the game, head coach Kyle Mullet talked with KCII Sports about how important this night was for his team.

Mullet said, “Brady (Weber) started us off with that complete game. We know we can always go to him. He’s a competitor out there. He’ll go deep. Throwing strikes, locating his pitches. The defense did a tremendous job making plays. In the second game, Brooks (Weber), like his brother, is a great competitor, he had a great off-speed for strikes early in counts. Behind him we had lights out defense again. Kale (Miller) came in after him and shut the door. Conner (Wiles) got up there and hit a two out RBI double. Gentry Bontrager steals third base and then we get a passed ball to score him. That was huge! I’m so proud of the energy our guys brought tonight!”

The Hawks are 11-6 after the two wins and 7-4 in conference play. The Beavers drop to 10-7 overall and 6-6 in conference. Mid-Prairie is off until the Beavers visit Wellman Thursday.
