
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team dropped two games Saturday at the Iowa City West Tournament on the campus of the University of Iowa. The Hawks were beaten 9-1 by Bettendorf to start the day. The Bulldogs ran out to a 9-0 lead on a seven spot in the second and two more runs in the third. Mid-Prairie broke through with a tally in the fifth. The Hawks were out hit 7-3 in total and surrendered eight walks while drawing four. Kadence Grout had a pair of singles. Kyla Karnes had the other Golden hawk hit and Sophie Miller scored the lone run. In the circle, Alena Snider and Noami Wadsworth combined to go five frames, giving up seven hits, eight earned runs, and eight walks.
Game two was back-and-forth with Iowa City West prevailing 11-9. Mid-Prairie scored the first six, including five in their opening at-bat and led 6-1 after two. The Women of Troy posted four in the third to close within one. Mid-Prairie’s two in the fourth made it 8-5 and West tied it with their own three spot in the fourth. The Hawks retook a brief lead at 9-8 with a run in the top of five but Mid-Prairie was eventually caught and passed with the Trojans three runs in the bottom of the fifth. West won the hit total 11-6. Mid-Prairie drew six walks to five for the Trojans. Grout had three hits and drove in four with two runs scored to lead. Karnes knocked in three and scored once. Claire Trimpe, Miller and Sophia Puttman all added a hit. Elise Foster and Trimpe scored twice. Grout worked all five in the circle, giving up 10 hits, nine earned runs, five walks and posting a strikeout. The Golden Hawks had a 4-3 record following the weekend.
