The Washington Demon baseball team got the season started in a good way Tuesday, scoring a 7-5 come-from-behind win at Highland. It was the Huskies with the upper hand early, scoring twice in the first frame on a pair of walks and two hit batters. Caleb Wheeler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Hunter Seibel. Landon Roling scored on a passed ball. Highland made it 3-0 in the third when Ryker Miller singled and came home on a Washington error. The Demons had the answer in the fourth. They batted all the way around, scoring six times. Boden Brown, Julian Parsons, Mitchell Zieglowsky, Luke Schiebel, Ethen Peebler and Isaac Medrano all came home, with two RBI for Peebler on a hit to the fence and one each for Blayze Richardson and Tyress Wright. The Demons added insurance in the fifth with one more to go up 7-3 when Conner Leyden scored on a passed ball. The Huskies chipped away late but couldn’t complete the comeback, plating one in the fifth when Miller scored on a Washington error and repeating that same sequence in the seventh. The Demons were able to slam the door with a 1-6-3 double play and a key strikeout to end the ball game.

The Demons had seven runs, seven hits and three errors to Highland’s five runs, four hits and two errors. Leyden was the winner on the hill with three innings, allowing two hits, three runs, two earned, walking two and striking out four. Blayze Richardson threw four frames out of the pen. Roling took the loss for the Huskies with four innings, five hits, three earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Washington got a pair of hits from Zieglowsky and one each from Nate Edmonds, Leyden, Parsons, Peebler and Wright. Peebler drove in two and Wright one. The Huskies got a two hits and three runs from Ryker Miller with an RBI for Caleb Wheeler. Washington is now 1-0 on the year and faces Muscatine Wednesday. Highland is 0-2 and will see Danville Thursday.
