What began as a full day on the calendar for Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk sports teams Monday turned into a washout.
As heard live on AM and FM KCII, at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman, the Golden Hawk baseball team hosted the Highland Huskies on opening night. The game was suspended in a scoreless tie due to lightning in the top of the second and never resumed. Golden Hawk pitcher Brooks Weber had worked to five batters without allowing a runner and struck out three. Highland hurler Colten Sypherd had not allowed a run. Mid-Prairie senior Blake Swart drew a first inning walk and was the only base-runner for either side to that point in the contest. Both programs are working to find a time to make-up the game.
The Mid-Prairie girls soccer team hosted the Wapello Arrows in the first round of the Class 1A regional tournament Monday at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields. The contest was scoreless and 22 minutes old when weather suspended play. That match will resume Tuesday night at 5p.m. In Wellman, from the point of suspension.
The Golden Hawk softball team had a scheduled scrimmage with Louisa-Muscatine in Kalona Monday which was also postponed due to weather.
