For a fourth straight season, a Washington Demon boys’ golfer will be competing at the state championships. Drew Conrad advanced from the Class 3A district tournament at Pin Oak Links in Manchester yesterday, shooting an eight-over-par 79 to finish third on the individual leaderboard and thus earn a place at state.
Washington fell just shy of sending the entire team to state for the third time in the last four seasons, as their combined score of 342 strokes was 15 behind the top-three finish as a team that they needed to advance.
Junior Rajan Roth fired an 87 for the Demons, while senior Cole Vetter and junior Carson Brown each carded an 88. Senior Conner Leyden added a 91 as Washington has the team portion of the season come to an end.
As for Conrad, his 11th top-10 finish of the season earns him a place at next week’s Class 3A state tournament at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls, with the first of two 18-hole rounds teeing off next Tuesday.
