Iowans are encouraged to get outdoors this Mother’s Day weekend and enjoy the wildflowers that are blooming across the Hawkeye State. According to this week’s Woodland Wildflowers report from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, a variety of flowers can be spotted currently.
In Henry and Des Moines counties, rue anemone, wild geranium, Bishop’s cap, and swamp buttercup are described as “still strong” while butterweed is “gaining strength.” Flowers that are adding to the blooms at this time include yellow star grass, prairie ragwort, columbine, Lily of the valley, mayapple, and white clover.
Also note, poison ivy is fully leafed out.
