The Washington Demons suffered their first loss of the girls’ soccer season last night, falling to Oskaloosa 5-3 at home. Washington fell behind 3-0 in the first 25 minutes, and while senior Angeline Anderson got them on the board with her first goal of the season, they would face a 4-1 deficit by halftime.
The Demons tried to claw back in the second half, with senior Maya Murphy punching in a perfectly placed cross from midfielder Luna Cuevas in the 48th minute.
Another cross from the junior found its way to sophomore Ashley Ramirez four minutes later, and she would score her third goal of the spring to get Washington back within one score. But Oskaloosa expanded their lead again on a free kick in the 63rd minute and held serve the rest of the way.
The defeat drops the Demons’ early record to 2-1. Washington will open up conference play when they next take the pitch Thursday at Burlington.
