mcdonald-and-schwab

A pair of local educators are looking for your vote in a nationwide contest. Highland’s Andrew McDonald and Peggy Schwab are in the running to be named America’s Favorite Teacher by the Reader’s Digest. Schwab is the district’s counselor, and McDonald serves as the Highland band instructor. McDonald states he became a teacher because of his family influence, with both of his parents working as elementary teachers, his grandfather an accounting professor, his grandmother a middle school and special ed teacher, and his uncle a calculus teacher. Schwab entered the profession to become the adult that she needed as a young person. Helping struggling youth by giving them a space to feel needed and supported. Both teachers’ full biographies are available through the contest website.

The contest, which features educators from across the country, names one winner who receives $25,000, a feature in Reader’s Digest, a trip to Hawaii and a school assembly with Bill Nye, The Science Guy. Voting is open to the public with the next deadline at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 27th. You can find the link to vote for Schwab and McDonald with this story at KCIIradio.com.
