The Columbus Wildcats are hoping to keep up their winning ways on the football field when they host Van Buren County tomorrow night. Columbus comes in with back-to-back wins raising their record to 3-3, including a 3-2 record in Class A District 5 that has them on the cusp of reaching the playoffs.

Senior Riley Kaalberg has powered the Wildcat offense with 865 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, while junior quarterback Trevor Phillips has been an efficient playmaker, completing 68 percent of his pass attempts for over 480 yards and eight TDs.

Senior Markell Zapiensz has been one of the Columbus defense’s biggest disruptive forces with 11 tackles for loss, as has sophomore Lamar Ceant with three interceptions.

The Wildcats will be taking on a Van Buren County team that is 1-5 and averages less than 11 points per game. Columbus beat VBC last year 61-14 for their third win in the last five meetings with the Warriors. Kickoff of this season’ matchup is tomorrow evening at 7 from Columbus Junction.
