Dating safety, healthy habits, and red flags in dating will be discussed in a program for teenagers in Washington. Xiomara Levsen with the Domestic Violence Intervention Program says it is an important topic to discuss with teenagers, “They’ll learn about what is not typical behavior, like monitoring behavior if somebody cuts them off from their friends and family that they’re dating. Or sometimes the internet can play into it like stalking, or just tracking their friends and who they’re talking to on the internet. And then they’ll learn the red flags. The number one, top red flag is excessive jealousy and possessiveness.” She encourages parents to have conversations with their teens about healthy habits.
The free program is for sixth through twelfth grade students. It is presented by DVIP and the Washington County Domestic Violence Coalition. The presentation will also have pizza available at the Washington Public Library starting at 4 p.m. on February 10th. Space is limited for the program and interested teenagers should register at the Washington Public Library.
