A pair of cities in the KCII listening area were honored for their commitment to oral health. The Iowa Department of Public Health announced 107 Iowa communities that were awarded the Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Kalona and Lone Tree are among those recognized. Along with the quality award, Kalona was one of eight other communities who were awarded the 50 Year Award for maintaining continuous community water fluoridation from 1968-2018. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in drinking water to a level that is effective for preventing tooth decay.
