Prince Dauntless the Drab is in need of a wife, could she come from the swamp and the pair find each other on stage in Washington this week? The Washington Community Theater is presenting their summer musical Once Upon a Mattress. Brett Pierson who plays Sir Harry says the show is a twist on a classic fairy tale, “The plot is basically the Princess and the Pea except kind of turned on its head. It’s supposed to be the ‘real’ story. It follows Prince Dauntless the Drab and his attempt to get a new wife, and then what ends up happening is a non-traditional princess come to the kingdom. And she is put through the queen’s trial, which is again the Princess and the Pea so its the pea under 20 mattresses and then passes the test essentially, mostly with some extra workings by the rest of the cast.”
The final performances of the show will be this weekend with local actors. The funny family musical is at the Washington Community Center Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students.
