
A pair of KCII area schools are set to square off on the hardwood Tuesday night when Iowa Mennonite travels to Columbus for a Superconference doubleheader.
The IMS boys come into the game with an overall record of 9-5. Last time out they topped Wapello 58-51. Jeremy Niemeyer had 22 points to lead the way. For the season, IMS is led by Eli Ours scoring 14 points per game, 10th in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Caleb Gingerich has the team lead with 78 assists, second in the Superconference while Niemeyer paces IMS with 96 boards, seventh in the Superconference.
Columbus comes in with an overall mark of 1-13, in their last game they were beaten by Winfield-Mt. Union 46-34. On the year the Wildcats are led by Eric Valdez at 17 points per game, third in the Superconference. Valdez also leads Columbus with 41 assists . Mason Hodges is best for the Wildcats on the glass with 63 boards. These two teams met in December with IMS taking a 70-33 win.
The Iowa Mennonite girls come into the game with an overall record of 7-10. They fell in the Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot Out Friday to Burlington, Notre Dame 75-55, despite 29 points from Suzanna Yoder. On the season Yoder leads IMS and all of class 1A scoring 26 points per game. She is also best on the team and 10th in 1A with 64 assists. Yani Gutierrez leads IMS on the glass with 102 rebounds.
Columbus comes into the night with an overall record of 0-16. They were beaten in the Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot Out Friday by Cardinal 52-35. Anna Hamilton leads the Wildcats scoring seven points per game, her nine assists are also best on the team. Olivia Carrier has the team lead with 49 rebounds. These two schools met in December with IMS taking a 37-16 win. Action begins tonight at 6p.m. At Columbus High School.
