The Washington Demon softball team is at home for the first time in 2018 Wednesday when they host the Liberty Lightning in a non-conference doubleheader.

The Demons are 0-2 on the young season after dropping a pair of games to Anamosa Tuesday 10-9 and 7-3. The Demons were 21-18 last season, finishing with a 6-10 mark in the Southeast Conference. Washington hit .299 as a team and was led at the plate by senior Jessie Buchholz with her .426 average. Top returner for Washington is Morgan Brinning with her .388 average. In the circle the Demons had a 3.54 ERA a season ago and return everyone who threw a pitch last season, led by Molly Sparks with her 15-8 record and 3.15 ERA across 153 innings of work.

Iowa City Liberty is in their first season of softball at the new school, entering play at 0-2 on the year after a pair of 13-1 losses to Clear Creek Amana on Monday. You can hear all of the action between the Demons and the Lightning tonight live on AM and FM KCII, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 5p.m., first pitch of game one at 5:30 with game two to follow. The KCII Evening Magazine will air from 4-5p.m.
