At the Iowa High School State Baseball Tournament, Solon makes the 2A title game. Class 1A and 2A semifinals were played yesterday and in 2A, top seed Solon was down early to Columbus Catholic out of Waterloo 7-3 but scored seven runs in the third to come from behind and won 12-9 to move on to the championship. The Spartans will face Keumper Catholic who beat Davis County in extra innings. It was 4-4 going into the fourth and Keumper Catholic led off with a single and then on a sacrafice and errant throw to first allowed that runner on first to score the winning run. So Solon will play Keumper Catholic tomorrow for the championship. This year Solon has reached the football, basketball, and now baseball championship games. They won the football title.
In 1A, Remsen, St. Mary’s edged out Newman Catholic, Mason City 9-8. In the other semi, Martensdale-St. Mary’s beat Preston 10-2 and remain unbeaten this season.
Class 3A and 4A semifinal games will be today and then all four championship games will be played tomorrow. In 3A, Knoxville, the team that came out of the Demons sub-state will play Charles City.
