The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team started their postseason run with a bang by dismantling Tri-County 14-0 in the first round of districts on Tuesday in Keota.
If there was any concern of rust for IMS due to a 10 day lay off, those concerns were quickly washed away as they broke out for nine runs in the first inning. IMS brought 12 batters to the plate highlighted by a two RBI single by Cole Yoder and two RBI double off the bat of Caleb Yoder. The floodgates opened in the second and third inning as a home run derby broke out in Keota. Drake Brezina had a monstrous day at the plate hitting two bombs to center and left field to combine for five RBI on the day. Cole Yoder got in on the action with a two run shot himself in the third frame and for a team only having one home run in the whole season, IMS brought some pop en route to the slugfest. Cole Ours added three hits and two RBI. Caleb Yoder was efficient on the mound going all five innings giving up no runs on four hits.
Tri-County concludes their season at 1-19 as IMS moves to 12-9 and most importantly advances to the class 1A district semifinals on Thursday. They will face off with BGM (12-14) at Keota.
